NOTE: For anyone that experienced issues sending emails to certain domains/servers up to this last week (october 11th 2008). There was a DNS corruption issue affecting a large number of DNS servers world wide. It has now been resolved.Exchange email has features that other email clients do not have such as notifications on the progress of an email. If it discovers a message you have sent will not reach its intended destination instantly, which can be for a number of reasons relating to the recipients email server (Hotmail for example, is known for delays and unfortunately this is out of our control). You may also receive a delayed message if the server isn’t reachable. Exchange email will continue to attempt delivery of the email for 48 hours until it succeeds. If for any reason it cannot reach the mail server you have emailed it will return the message to sender.

Other issues such as a permissions issue when sending an email can also be down to an error when locating the name server record for the recipient.
If their email domain is a large distance away in another country, or it is for any reason unreachable/undetectable at that time then it is possible you will receive one of these status emails stating there has been an issue sending the message.

Examples:

'This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.'
